More than just an accessory, PAMPAYA, the mini charm, is a designer shell micro-sculpture, handcrafted and ocean-glazed in my studio for a signature wet-look finish. For the EMPREINTE line, I handpick each shell for its unique texture and nuances. I only retain the prismatic layer—the purest and most resilient—which I carve to reveal your secret, your message, or your identity.

1
THE INITIAL

Your letter or theirs, carved into the essence of the shell. Absolute singularity and effortlessly chic.

1
THE TOTEMS

Mini sculptures that define your world: shaped as a Surfboard complete with rocker and rails, a reimagined Heart, or an asymmetrical Star to begin a collection of charms never seen elsewhere. Order another Custom Totem, and I will handcraft it specifically for you, upon request.

2
THE DUO

Love and the unbreakable bond. Blend poetry, romance, and a personal message by wearing them together. The new romanticism.

THE CARVED WORD

Your name, a word of love, a date, or even your own phrase, forever frozen in time.

SCULPTING INTIMACY

Your story is unlike any other.

That is why I sculpt each letter, each number, and each symbol one by one, directly into the tiny seashell fragments I gather on the beach.

In my universe, no rigid jewelry constrains your body. My creations are flexible, for a soft and gentle wear that respects every one of your curves. Your charms are independent and free. They slide, roll, and live to the rhythm of your movements.

SIZE, STYLE, AND ETHICS? Forget standardized letters laser-cut from the white mother-of-pearl of river mussels, farmed in ponds in Asia. Here, the Ocean delivers its secret, and you sculpt yours through its wild nature. It is the Ocean that decides the curve of your seashell and creates it, on the Atlantic Coast, in France. It is the choice to wear a piece of the wild close to you.

IRREGULAR & ORGANIC? Through the art of hand micro-sculpting, no two charms are ever identical. Your "M", "J", "A", or "E" will look like no other, neither in its shape nor in its nuances. Rest assured that your charm is strictly unique: of wild provenance, hand-foraged, and created in France in my atelier, it exists only as a single edition. It cannot be replicated, not by me, nor by any process. It is an original, hand-sculpted work of art.

OCEANIC GLAZE? The sculpted seashell fragment is then protected and enhanced by my Oceanic Glaze, which reinforces its strength and makes it smooth and soft. It gives it a shine as brilliant as if you had just found it on the beach, still wet from the waves.

SCULPTED FINISH

Create your mark: Personalize the shape you desire. Your charm comes with their rings in 14k Gold Filled or 925 Silver. Your PAMPAYA, hand-sculpted and protected by its Oceanic Glaze, thus easily attaches to all your jewelry (chains, bracelets, rings, or hoops).

PEOPL ALSO ASK
THE DESIGNER'S ADVICE::

1 | What is seashell jewelry called?

In the world of creation, we move away from simple "surfer jewelry" to speak of jewelry made from oceanic fragments or Artisan High Jewelry.

At Maison L|C, I don't speak of mere seashells, but of "ancient material" polished by the waves, on this page, you will discover talismans, they are unique pieces that take the form of what I call PAMPAYAS:

Here are their origins:

FRANCE, ATLANTIC OCEAN South-West | Seignosse-Le-Penon— also known as the 'Côte d'Argent'.

- The Sea Almond (Glycymeris glycymeris): This is candidate #1! This bivalve is very thick, round, and its shell is white/cream with magnificent brown/caramel stripes or spots. When it breaks and is tumbled by the ocean, it yields exactly these smooth, beige, and caramel fragments. The Moon Snail (Natica catena or Naticidae): A snail-shaped shell, very solid, often light beige with small reddish or caramel patterns.

- The Wedge Shell (Donax trunculus): Thinner, but very present in the sand of the South-West, with colored bands of beige, white, and sometimes purplish hues.

- The Scallop (Pecten maximus / Mimachlamys varia): Heavily worn fragments can produce these white and caramel shades.

WILD ORIGIN - HAND FORAGED: I forage the tiny fragments along the Coast. From white to caramel, through Cream and Sand, absolutely sublime. The starting point of my craft as an Ocean Shaper.

ASIA, PACIFIC OCEAN "The Golden Triangle Lagoon" Raja Ampat— considered the Amazon of the Seas, encompassing Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia.

- The Pyrene ocellata

- The Nassarius colombella

WILD REEF - HAND FORAGED: two species that I call "graphic chocolates", ranging between chocolate and deep black with white polka dots or white stripes, simply magnificent. A fantastic discovery.

All these species make up the precious and delicate charms, hand-sculpted and glazed. They are designed to be worn as true Bespoke luxury amulets on 14K Gold Filled or 925 Silver rings.

2 | How to make seashell jewelry?

To answer this question, I delved back into my early days. I want to share my memories, my trials, and the method I have since adopted to properly open and close a jump ring. I had plenty of projects and zero know-how, having never created jewelry myself just for fun—yes, really. I would find styles I liked elsewhere, from other designers or brands. I am entirely self-taught, so I started from scratch, just like you might be doing right now. What made up my mind was that seashell jewelry exactly as I create it—Micro-sculpted with my Oceanic Glazing—didn't exist anywhere else; otherwise, I wouldn't have created it.

I wanted to be able to offer you something different, something worthy of the incredible beauty of seashells. In short, Micro-sculpture allows me to create Custom and personalized seashell jewelry for you, and the Oceanic Glazing restores the water's glow to your shell, as if you had just picked it up at the water's edge.

Picture this: we are in 2015, I am sitting in front of my sketchbook, I have my sublime seashells gleaned from the beach right in front of my house. I've already tried working with them—I spent over an hour drilling just one (and broke many: a total disaster)—yet I am determined to see my idea through. So, I draw, I scribble down my ideas, I write about the brand's concept.

I thought about the tools and equipment I would need, I already procured them, I have everything in front of me, and I am thrilled #iamprest. Speaking of which, I highly recommend investing in good quality pliers if you plan on making jewelry often (whether with shells or not). I bought an assortment of electrician's pliers when I started, while picking out my precious Dremel in a very well-known hardware store; I kept those first pliers for a very long time. Later, I treated myself to finer ones, but to start, it's a minimal investment to make and highly useful—you will thank me for a long time.

And then (finally...), it hit me that I hadn't asked myself the "how-to" question (hahaha!). So there I was, searching for advice. I found it by gleaning information absolutely everywhere. From all this research, I created my own simple and effective method. I like things done right and I wanted to learn the best practices, so I took the time to learn. I read as many texts as possible, watched an incredible number of videos, discovered websites of tradespeople who love sharing their know-how; I absorbed all the available knowledge that met my needs. I spent whole hours, days to be precise, and I am still learning today. Rule number 1 for anyone who creates: learn, work, and pass it on.

The equipment you will need to start is a pair of flat-nose pliers and round-nose pliers, which will be used to open and close the rigid jump ring provided with your Custom PAMPAYA. All my jump rings are in 14K Gold Filled or 925 Silver.

Forget arts and crafts, handmade hobbies, and DO-IT-YOURSELF workshops; your handmade jewelry deserves better.

Do you want to create your own seashell jewelry? I completely understand, and I suggest you learn how to do it professionally. Why settle for less when making your own jewelry, since you'll want to wear it for a long time?

Here is what I want to share with you: the absolute basics, and above all, what they don't tell you on the websites you visit, just like I did before you. Opening a jump ring—meaning clamping the ring between round-nose and flat-nose pliers to offset the two ends in opposite directions by one or two millimeters, then bringing them back together—is useless and DOES NOT AT ALL guarantee that your ring is properly closed.

I learned from a master jeweler with years of experience, an heir to traditional French Savoir-Faire, and I’m gifting this knowledge to you. Remember this: simply placing the two ends face-to-face, as shown in so many DIYs, is not enough... Yeah, no. It’s wrong. Depending on the alloy, the thickness, and the quality of the ring you’ve chosen, there’s a high risk it will open and, unfortunately, you’ll lose what makes your jewelry so beautiful—we’ve all been there, haven't we?

Here is my secret: when you open the ring, do so by applying light inward pressure with both pliers: shift them to spread the ends apart while simultaneously bringing them closer together, so that the two tips of the ring overlap very slightly. You must ensure the two ends cannot simply meet with a straight motion that brings them face-to-face.

That’s the DIY method explained everywhere, and it’s exactly what we don’t want.

In other words, you spread them—one end to the right, the other to the left—it couldn't be simpler.

Are you still with me? The trick is this: to close the ring, you must slide the tips against each other. It’s this friction (or tension) that will eliminate any possible gap between the two. Here is my method, my gift to you.

This is the method used in the professional jewelry industry. If you ever need to solder a ring, you slide an extremely thin piece of solder—a paillon—between the two and melt it. The result is a clean joint that, with experience, requires little to no finishing. But that is a story for another time. I strongly advise against soldering any ring attached to a PAMPAYA with Oceanic Glazing, as the heat would damage the glassy effect I have crafted for you.

Because hardness does not mean resilience, contrary to popular belief, I created 'THE L|C DROP: We got your shell'. These are the new rings I designed, supplied closed on the PAMPAYAS that fit most of your jewelry (rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces). My L|C DROPS are slipped into your charms as a flexible ring, far more resistant to movement and accidental snags, totally eliminating the shocks that rigid metal rings inflict on their settings.

I invented them for this very reason. There is nothing more frustrating than damaging a beautiful object you cherish simply because of a rigid ring's hardness. They are flexible and strong, crafted in 14K Gold Filled or 925 Silver, depending on your choice. My L|C DROPS accompany all your PAMPAYAS; they are made from my high-resistance memory wire, sealed with a matching cover. I have seen jewelry (chains, bracelets...) pulled by a baby’s hands that didn't survive the shock; this has never happened to the mothers who bought my necklaces with this type of attachment, which I’ve also used for my clasps since 2015.

From the start, I wanted to offer you clasp-free jewelry for a 'wear in a second' experience—as easy to put on as it is to change. Their resistance limit is one and a half times their initial size. And if that margin isn’t enough, repairing your attachment is one of the services included in your 2-year guarantee on 14K Gold Filled and 925 Silver jewelry.

Have you ever read this adage? 'A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.' The logic behind it is that the force applied to a chain is evenly distributed among its links, each bearing the same weight.

You have two choices: if you want total security, opt for thick chains; if you prefer delicacy, they will be fragile. And if you know my journey, then you know I only have eyes for the delicate. That is why I invented 'THE L|C DROP: We got your shell'—I refused to choose between beauty and strength.

Depending on the piece of jewelry you wish to hang your charm from, you may need to attach a jump ring between the L|C drop (flexible ring) and, for instance, your chain. In that case, I have just shared with you the finest method for opening and closing a ring with the dexterity of someone who has mastered this craft for over a decade.

OF BEAUTY AND DURABILITY

EQUIPMENT

3 | Now, let's talk aesthetics: how many charms should you wear for a truly exquisite look?

From 1 to 5: Your initial or theirs, a totem (my epic surfboard, a heart, a star) or your favorite number: the effect is there, resolutely chic. You won't be able to go without them. This allows you to write a short name, to wear the symbol of your identity or your love, while keeping the minimalist spirit of a refined style.

From 6 to 10: You can compose an important date, celebrate a birth, a meeting, or display your names or those of your children. A new way to leave your mark on time for an unforgettable gift.

Up to 20: Your mantra, your favorite phrase, your declaration of love,

long names... everything is allowed. It is the ultimate gift to wear close to you or to give. Simply unmatched. Whatever your desire, PAMPAYA, the hand-shaped charm in a seashell fragment, is incredibly original.

4 | How to style charms?

3 | What are the different ways to wear charms? They bring to your jewelry a poetry that blends softness and the wild, totally original. As an example:

SOLO: On a delicate chain, a bracelet, or a ring, for a minimalist style. Add your secret, sculpted in a seashell, to that of the Ocean.

DUO: Add your initials to a bracelet, a necklace, or even a ring as a discreet and personal reminder of your feelings. Create the spark.

STACKING: Put your children's initials with your own, or that of your love, on the same piece of jewelry and accompany them with a totem to sign your message. To create an identity that makes you feel unique, truly apart, and for a confident look, wear several charm models: your initials associated with totems or your birth date.

AS A TWIST: worthy of the L|C charm: Single earrings have this quirky, subversive side that appeals to bold individuals. I guarantee the pleasure you will experience matching them to your outfits: a must-try if you are not yet a fan!

Think of the service to submit your idea to me if you desire a special charm. I am always delighted to discover your own interpretation of the hand-sculpted PAMPAYA.

THE SECRET

An initial, a number, a totem. Pure simplicity, to wear close to you.
1 PAMPAYA
THE SECRET BEHIND MY LOGO

It has its own secret. The brilliant graphic designer of a globally renowned brand reshaped my original logo to mimic the rolling waves of the Ocean. That alone was enough to win me over, but his stroke of genius was creating an entire bespoke alphabet using exclusively the straight line of the "L" and the curve of the "C" from my initials.

And no, he obviously didn't incorporate a shell—the idea was far too cliché. Instead, it features the star, my favorite symbol, signaling an incoming barrel.

Absolutely yes, I love my logo. And you, what is your secret?

THE NUMBERS

Your lucky number to hang from your jewelry. The size of all my charms is between 0.6 mm and 10 mm.

THE TOTEMS

STAR

This is the rough draft, the initial raw cut. At this stage, the material is still untamed. I have carved away the outer shell to reach the prismatic layer—the most resilient one. It will require hours of meticulous sanding and polishing to soften the edges, refine the curves, and sculpt the final shape, right before the ultimate revelation: the Ocean Glaze.

HEART

The reimagined Heart. By popular demand, I have finally created this unprecedented shape for you. Here are my first iterations: I micro-carved this totem from a Nassarius Colombella. Its shape is naturally domed because I start with a whole, perfectly round shell. This makes it infinitely more complex to carve and balance compared to a simple fragment already flattened by the Ocean.

THE SPARK

You and me. The two letters that ignite the spark.
