1. Having your shells drilled by a professional remotely: how does it work?

You send me your holiday finds by mail, I take care of the technical work, and I send you back your finished jewelry. This Atelier service is the online reference for this specific need. On the configurator dedicated to drilling your own shells, within my Atelier, I handle the delicate water-drilling and mount your shell on a 925 Sterling Silver or 14K Gold Filled ring or lobster clasp to transform it into a personalized charm or pendant.

I take charge of your shell, check its thickness, and assess its condition to drill it without any risk of breaking. I use a gentle drilling technique, unlike most of the brutal methods found on the web. My 10 years of experience allow me to know everything about this ancient material and to drill fine, clean, and sharp holes.

I use a Dremel, a precision rotary tool with 2mm diamond drill bits. One of my designer secrets is to drill delicately, using water, and from the back (the side resting against your body) to minimize the risk of chipping during the drilling process. I stop at the exact moment the shell just begins to pierce, which allows me to control the size of the hole I want to achieve, at a minimum of 1mm or larger depending on your request.

Shells are made of limestone layers; drilling them can sometimes remove thin flakes. That is why my technique involves adding a drop of water regularly as soon as I feel the shell heating up, allowing it to cool down while being drilled. Moreover, the drilling speed is very low, and I never press on the material: it is the diamond tip that very slowly removes tiny parts of the shell. This allows me to work gently without ever overheating the shell.

2. What types of shells can you send to the Atelier?

I drill all types of shells, whether they are thin, thick, large, or mini. All can be drilled thanks to my gentle and respectful water-drilling technique:

5. You know how to get your shells drilled to make jewelry, but how do you send them to me?

Here is the shipping process, which is child's play. Once your order is confirmed on the configurator:

Put a dot with a dark pen on the shell at the exact spot where you want me to drill.

Slip your shells, preferably into a well-protective bubble envelope to prevent breakage during the journey.

Insert a second envelope (empty and already stamped with your own address) inside the mail. This return envelope will allow me to send your finished jewelry back to you.

Write your order number on a quick note or directly on the return envelope. Send everything to the Atelier address that I will provide by email after your order.
